I was absolutely overwhelmed with the amount of support I received during the cover reveal of The Sister. Thank you so much everyone who liked, commented and shared. I really appreciate it.
I’ve been tied to this bed before, but not like this. Not with pain throbbing behind my temples and blood trickling down my forehead.
I prise my eyelids open. A shape shifts and blurs in my vision.
Mark.
‘You’re awake.’ He snaps on gloves. ‘You shouldn’t have betrayed me, Ruth.’
I want to tell him I didn’t but the words stick in my throat. I can’t tell him who did. I just can’t.
His hands snake around my neck. He squeezes his fingers and I want to tell him everything, but it’s too late.
I see black.
White.
Brilliant, brilliant light.
Written for Friday Fictioneers. A 100 word story inspired by a photo prompt. Hop over to host Rochelle’s blog and read the other entries here.

Wow. This was such a dark and haunting story. You told it so well! There’s only a minor typo towards the end: “but the word stick in my throat.” Other than that, fantastic work!
Thanks so much for pointing that out and for reading.
Brutal
Straight to the point I think!
I hope fate catches up with Mark. Haunting and perhaps Ruth will do that to him.
Now there’s a whole new story!
Dear Louise,
I love your book cover. It makes me want to open the book.
Haunting story.
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks so much Rochelle. The designer did a great job – I’m so pleased with it.
That settles it. Mark is off my Christmas card list!

I wouldn’t upset him if I were you!
It’s okay. He doesn’t know where I live, unless he reads my… Oh my God! What have I done?
Hehe. Be afraid…
I almost hate to like this. This is an excellent write, though the subject is terrifying. 🙂
Thanks very much.
Creepy, creepy, creepy! Nice work. Oh, and congratulations, Louise, on the Big Reveal and your book. I know how hard you must have worked, but the payoff will be soon. Well done!
Thanks – really appreciate that. 89 days – not that I’m counting!
Brilliant, Brilliant light- well that’s brilliant 🙂 congrats on your book, love the cover and this story is equally haunting.
Very nicely done, and love the book cover too. You must be delighted!
Thanks Sandra – I am 😀
fab as usual 🙂
Thank you Helen.
Ah.. But I cincerly hope that he has will suffer when destiny catch him… Truly chillingly told.
This is one of those stories where I really want to know what happened behind the snapshot. Fantastically gripping.
Thanks Carol. If only I had more words!
What a well-written spooky story!
And yay! Another book from a fellow FF-er to read!
Thanks Dale 😃
Great tension. Mark’s very scary. Snapping on a pair of gloves – that’s a great detail that shows him as cool and calculating. Terrific. Congratulations on the book cover. I shall be ordering my Amazon copy.
Thanks so much Margaret – I really appreciate that.
Dark and chilling.
Thanks!
Death close up and personal! wonderful!
Thanks very much.
I don’t think that’s going to end well. Nice take on the prompt.
Thanks Claire.
That’s a terrifying story, neatly packaged into a searing 100 words! Very well-written.
Thank you for taking the time to comment.
My pleasure! 🙂
Very dark this week. Who is she protecting, prepared to die for? It gets you asking so many questions.
I could tell you but then Mark would have to kill you!
I love suspense, and this story has a lot of it. I’m dying to know the secret she’s keeping.
Thanks Josslyn.
So much mystery and well-drawn characters in 100 words. Well done!
I hope this Mark gets what he deserved. Brilliant take on the prompt.
Thank you. I hope he does too!
i think it would have been more fun if the guy was the victim. 🙂
Now there’s a twist!
Gripping and terrifying. Ruth never should have gotten involved with Mark methinks.
Me too! Thanks Joseph.
Oooooh, there is alot of backstory here we can only guess at. Who really betrayed Mark? Why is Ruth protecting them? Should they be protected? I really enjpyed this, especially Ruth’s last-breath decision to tell, but which comes too late. Very nice touch
Thanks so much for your comments I really appreciate them. This is another piece I would really like to develop time permitting!
I know what you mean, I have a few FFs that i think would benefit from more work and expanding but there is never enough time!
I know-where does it go!
Vivid and dark. Nice piece, Louise!
He will find out and he will kill again!
Oh sorry…I was really into it. 😉
That’s great! Thanks Dawn.
Does the bright light indicate he’s released his grip, so many ways to develop this story, that is great. Mike
Yes she’s dead unfortunately. Thanks so much for reading Mike.
