‘A million green bottles, hanging on the wall, a million ………’
‘You’re not singing that all the way to Grandma’s.’
‘Am too.’
‘Am not.’
‘Stupid baby. There’s not even a wall big enough for a million green bottles.’
‘There’s not even a wall big enough for your stupid face.’
‘That doesn’t make sense.’
‘Does too.’
‘Does not.’
‘A million green bottles, hanging on the wall, a million …………’
‘If you stop singing I’ll give you my mars bar.’
‘OK.’
***
‘I can’t believe we had to stop so you could throw up.’
‘You shouldn’t have given me chocolate, it was your fault.’
‘Was not.’
‘Was too…………….. A million fat sausages sizzling in a pan, one went…….’
‘Arggghhhhhhhh.’

The first thing I noticed when I looked at this weeks photo was the green bottles. I was inspired by a family day out yesterday. My boys had an interesting ‘debate,’ on the way home lasting almost an hour. At least they didn’t ask ‘are we nearly there yet?’

Fabulous – had me (and my wife) in stitches.
Thanks Keith – that’s lovely to hear 🙂
Train or boat or plane, never the car ride. Your piece rings so true.
Thanks Patrick.
Hey, this sounds eerily familiar… 🙂
Very funny and realistic!
Thanks Ali.
dripping with childhood memories of journeys that we took! loved it ! 🙂
Thanks. I’m sure my and my sister were the same.
Sounds like a familiar debate. 🙂
Age old. Thanks.
A million laughs….Good one.
Thanks very much.
How well you’ve packaged childhood, Louise!
Thanks Andrew. Some things never change.
Aaahhh yes,,,summer fun with the kids. It takes me back!
Fun take on the prompt my friend.
Thanks very much Dawn.
Wait, were you in the car with us? This was funny.
Siblings!
I remember the neighbor boys almost killing my friend and me for singing this as children packed into their family station wagon. You caught it well.
It can get a tad repetitive! Thanks Alicia.
Almost (but not quite) makes me nostalgic for journeys like this one. Highly realistic!
We miss those days when they’re gone don’t we. Thanks for reading.
That’s so funny. And the end had me laughing out loud.
Thanks so much.
I remember those days well with my kids and with my sister. And the timeless parental reply, “Shut up, because I said so!”
Haha – I’m guessing you didn’t?
Oh I’ve been there too… I swear some kids were born with the phrase “are we nearly there yet?” on their lips.
Kids squabbling in the backs of cars: it’s what holidays were made for.
Good piece.
And now… we all have that song stuck in our head! Such a classic scene, captures so subtly. Nice job, Louise!
Were you in my car when I was driving my kids way back when?
This hits the home run of car rides. Nicely done …. !!! 😎
Thanks very much.
Wonderful! I loved the title too. We have all been part of (and all had to listen to) those back seat arguments
Dear Louise,
I laughed out loud. It brought back memories of when my kids were young. Oh those car trips. Well done. .
Shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle. Some things are timeless!
Ah! Long drives with kids in the back what a lovely soothing activity. I did my fair share 🙂
Brilliant! You had me laughing out loud with this one.
The conversation rings so true, loved it!
