I want to travel the world,
I want to live by the sea,
In another place, I would become,
The person I was meant to be.
I want to go far away,
I want to leave that boy,
The one who broke my heart,
The one who stamped on my joy.
I unfurl my battered map,
Smooth creases with my hand,
Now where should I go?
Where is the promised land?
I squint through blackened eyes,
I dream of sand and sun,
I jump when the front door bangs,
I tremble when I see his gun.
I’ve never travelled far,
And now I never will,
A bang, a scream, a pain,
And then everything is still.

Wow – I pressed ‘like’ but I hope it stays in the realm of fiction.
Don’t go into the woods today ….
I didn’t anticipate that ending. A sad tale – if only she hadn’t missed that chance. Very well written. 🙂
Thanks Millie.
Made me jump.
Good! Thanks John.
Nice work!
Thanks Amy.
I didn’t see that coming! Nicely written… the sort of thing that’ll stay with me for a while.
Thanks Linda. I didn’t see it coming either!
Ah, I love it when that happens. 🙂
I like the way you wrote this in a poem and it told the whole story.
Thanks Deborah.
Wow. Very powerful; you perfectly captured someone desperately hoping for something other than the reality they’re dealing with. The ending made me sad, which means it was well done — very evocative.
Much appreciated. Thanks.
Whoa!!! Didn’t see that comin’ but was very well done.
Thanks so much.
Nicely done!
