‘The usual?’
‘Yep. Set meal for one. Thanks Connor’.
I had been single for months. The way Simon betrayed me had put me off relationships. Even if it hadn’t, where would I meet a new man?
I ate my meal and broke open my fortune cookie.
‘I think you’re beautiful. How about a set meal for two, Saturday, 8.00 pm?’
Yes!
I put the finishing touches to my make-up. I thought about gorgeous Connor but then the image of the toothless old chef flashed through my mind. Shit. Which one had sent it?
Best stay in and order pizza.
Written for Friday Fictioneers. A 100 word story inspired by a photo prompt.

Take a chance though…liked the direction of the story. 🙂
Thanks.
Oh, why did she play it safe? If only she’d plunged in, she could have at least gotten a nice meal out of it, and perhaps, made a friend.
Ah … mysterious are the workings of humans.
Ah well you should never judge a book by its cover either. The chef could have been lovely!
I loved the story, by the way!
Thanks 🙂
Oh honey, live dangerously!
I think, for her, switching to pizza is a big change!
I loved your story! Since she did not took the chance, I wrote the Saturday part as my contribution for this weeks FF. 🙂
Wow. Very cool. Look forward to reading it when you post it.
Done 🙂
Great to get Connors view. This may have to be continued!
Let’s see where the wind blows 🙂

Smart move…
Possibly.
Toss a coin…. but if the guy you desire really wants you, he won’t be thwarted. If he reacts like a woman you did yourself a favor…
Haha. Yes.
I think I probably would have done the same thing and stayed in for pizza (though I doubt I would have said yes to begin with).
Flattering though I guess.
Yes, it is quite flattering.
Haha Good one. Better fortune than the ones that have learning a Chinese word on one side and lottery numbers on the other. 🙂
janet
Never seen those. I usually get some terrible quote.
Good one. I’d order the pizza and make him ask properly… to be on the safe side.
I think she may have missed her chance now.
Dear FF,
I enjoyed this stream of consciousness tale toward the eventual pizza. Well done.
Aloha,
Doug
Thanks very much Doug.
Fun story! Take a chance, woman, you never know 🙂 . Though I must admit, I’d stay in and order pizza too.
Don’t think I would turn down free food!
Ahhh, such a dilemma. If it was a handwritten note, maybe she could compare it with the two guys at the restaurant. Sneaky is best after all 😀 Nice take on the prompt my friend.
Thanks Lyn. Receiving a handwritten note would win me over 🙂
I loved the twist at the end! I liked it when it was a cute romance–but the idea that it WASN’T Connor made it just perfect.
Not for her! 😉
Hysterically good! I laughed out loud. Still am!
Great take on the prompt, too.
😀
Thanks very much 🙂
That’s what happens when notes are used instead of a good old face-to-face. Well done. Now I want some pizza.
And then she’ll never know. Had a laugh with this one. Well thought out.
Glad you did. Thank you.
Very cool!
Thanks!
Oh no, don’t stay at home. Jump! 🙂
Dear F,
I don’t know. The invitation in a fortune cookie is pretty clever. Tough choice. 😉 Good story.
shalom,
Rochelle
Thanks Rochelle.
would have been better if she took a veiled look at who waits on the table before deciding for the pizza! 🙂
Ah that would be an idea.
Love this! Reminds me of a blind date with “Ernie” in my teenage years! He was the toothless one! 🙂 Thank you for the follow! ^..^
Ooh now I’m really curious!
Worst blind date ever. The fellow was 6′ and 300 pounds, crew cut. We went to the movies and he hung over me the entire film. This caused me to lean over the gal sitting next to me. My back hurt by the time the film was over. I made a quick escape from the car when he dropped me off at home! 😐
I laughed – sorry 🙂
It is funny now! It was not back then! 🙂
Louise, Heck. If it’s the chef she can gift him with dentures. At least she’ll eat well. 😀 Funny story and well written. 🙂 —Susan
True – I always fancied dating a chef but could never find one! Thanks Susan.
Tough choice. No more waiting for a seat or the chef’s special each time. Hmm that pizza does sound good.
It does indeed 🙂
Awww… I hope she takes a chance and finds out who’s on the other end of the note. Nothing ventured, right? Of course pizza is good…
Pizza the safe option. Always tasty but not much fun!
Great story and loved the way your protagonist resolved the ambiguous ending.
Thanks very much.
Take the chance. It could be Connor. in fact, it is.
It sure was.
So funny and so well written. I think maybe she should have risked it though.
Me too. I never turn down food!
